UVic graduate students, Anthony Persaud (MSc student, Geography), Ricardo Rossin (PhD student, Earth and Ocean Sciences), UVic postdoctoral fellow Dr. Paleah Black Moher and adjunct professor Kevin Telmer are engaged in cutting edge research and problem solving through the Artisanal Gold Council. Working on the ground in Africa, they focus on mercury use reduction and formalization of the millions of people involved in artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM).
