ZAMBIA
EXPLORATION GEOLOGIST
Location: Lusaka, Zambia | Contract Duration: 3 months (with potential for renewal)
The Artisanal Gold Council (AGC) is hiring an Exploration Geologist to support the planetGOLD Zambia project, a UN-backed initiative focused on reducing mercury use in artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM). Based in Lusaka, this role involves extensive fieldwork to identify and assess potential gold resources, with the aim of advancing formalization and sustainable practices in Zambia’s ASGM sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct geological assessments and mapping of ASGM sites within a 100 km radius of target locations.
Evaluate ore quality, deposit types, and resource potential at ASGM sites.
Collaborate with artisanal miners, government officials, and community stakeholders.
Produce detailed geological reports, including maps, sampling data, and resource estimates.
Provide recommendations on high-potential sites for mercury-free processing plants.
Support the planetGOLD Zambia team with technical advice and site selection.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geosciences (Master’s preferred).Minimum 5 years of experience in exploration geology, particularly in gold deposits.
Familiarity with Zambia’s ASGM sector, including local mining practices and challenges.
Proficiency in software such as Leapfrog, QGIS, Micromine, or Vulcan.S
trong data analysis, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Fluency in English and at least two local Zambian languages.
