These reports combine information sourced from existing literature, stakeholder consultations, and field work conducted under the AGC’s USDoS funded project in Nicaragua and Suriname. These documents provide a single overview report of the countries’ ASGM sectors. The reports provide readers with general country specific background on technical, social, environmental, and legal aspects of ASGM, and present new national inventory estimates for mercury use, gold production and ASGM workforce populations in each country.

In 2021, the AGC undertook a study on the impacts of COVID-19 on the ASGM sector in Sierra Leone. This report highlights the results, focusing on impacts to miners’ livelihoods, gender impacts, and disruptions to the informal gold supply chains that are the backbone of most of Sierra Leone’s gold production and trade. Recommendations for buttressing ASGM communities against future disruptions are made.
