VICTORIA, BC — The Artisanal Gold Council (AGC) proudly announces the appointment of Douglas Kao as its new Global Operations Manager. In this pivotal role, Douglas will spearhead the organization's strategic initiatives, leveraging his extensive expertise in mining engineering, project management, and a steadfast commitment to sustainable development within the artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) sector.

Douglas Kao brings a wealth of experience, holding a B.A.Sc. in Mining Engineering from the University of British Columbia. His immersion in the world of ASGM since 2019 has equipped him with a multifaceted approach to problem-solving. Douglas draws upon his industry acumen from his tenure at various Canadian mining operations, complemented by his current impactful work within the non-profit sector.
A strong advocate for fieldwork and sustainable development, Douglas's primary mandate at the AGC involves the technical design, coordination, and management of establishing responsible gold extraction systems within ASGM communities. His global engagement spans project sites in Indonesia, Mongolia, and the Philippines, showcasing his dedication to implementing impactful solutions on an international scale.
"I look to augment the Artisanal Gold Council's capacity and reputation as a pragmatic, multidisciplinary organization that continues to lead the ASGM sector toward professionalism," says Douglas Kao. "My technical background in mineral processing and systems optimization, married with field and project management experience gleaned over my four and a half years at the AGC, has provided a unique position for me to foster synergies within our current portfolio of international projects."
In his new role, Douglas Kao aims to capitalize on lessons learned from the planetGOLD projects in Burkina Faso, Mongolia, and the Philippines. He seeks to bring enhanced cohesion to AGC's teams, both technical and non-technical, thereby amplifying the organization's impact and effectiveness.
